Commuters bustle in and out; the regulars convene; town politics are discussed; and another day begins in NJ.
We chronicle what makes NJ great and different. In a world of generic chain stores and the Starbuxification of America, one last truly independent edifice remains: the tri-state area bagel shop. No national chains. No caramel macchiatos. Just bagels, and coffee. And also usually a huge assortment of Snapple and similar beverages. Here’s another important thing: no advertising. Fast food advertisements seem more real (and enticing!) than the food itself; with the bagel, there is just the bagel itself, sans air-brushed imagery. What foodstuff could be more real? Lastly, every New Jerseyan has “their” bagel shop, and we think that’s important.
