Golden Bagels, Old Bridge

The search for good bagels in Middlesex continued here, at Golden Bagels in Old Bridge:

After a mediocre bagel at Bagel Talk in Old Bridge, our hopes were raised by the unpretentiousness of the store. We should have been more suspicious of a bagel shop that serves gyros. Too much variety can be a bad sign.

Unlike at Bagel Talk, service was prompt. I ordered a poppy with plain cream cheese (toasted), and my associate ordered an everything with plain cc (no toast). They mixed up the toast part of the order, toasting the everything and not the poppy. There was only one other party in the store–a family of four–causing us to wonder how the orders come out during peak hours.

The everything had a noticeably crunchy texture on the crust, and a good flavor.

Both bagels were a little on the bready side, and this bagel left me wondering what they did with the rest of the poppy seeds–surely there must be more hiding somewhere?!

Sadly, we left Golden Bagels still in search of a Middlesex bagelry worthy of its’ denizens hard-earned dollars. Not today, Middlesex. Not today.
